Smarter Environmental Regulation - update from Defra, webinar
This webinar provided members with the opportunity to hear directly from the Defra on phase 1 of its Smarter Environmental Regulation Review, with a focus on developing smarter guidance and data reporting.
As part of the Government’s Smarter Environmental Regulation Review, Defra is consulting on new approaches to Guidance and Data Reporting. Defra guidance is being rationalised over the next year, cancelling guidance that is no longer required, and simplifying the rest, making it as clear as possible what businesses need to do to stay compliant with environmental law. It will also make sure all the guidance is on one website- gov.uk, the UK government’s new single portal for all government related business.
The review will also make it much easier for businesses to report information as required by regulation- streamlining the number of reporting obligations and making it easier to report. For example by adopting a ‘submit once, use many times’ system where a business only submits a discrete piece of data once, yet it can be used by many different government agencies.
This webinar outlined key elements of the review and timetable for implementation.
