Targets for Green Growth - setting the targets under the Environment Bill
We hosted an event in partnership with The Broadway Initiative to discuss the government's commitment to deliver “the most ambitious environmental programme of any country on earth” and the targets for green growth under the new Environment Bill.
The Government has set a commitment to deliver “the most ambitious environmental programme of any country on earth”. This ambition will be defined through the process for setting long-term legally binding targets established through the Environment Bill, alongside the government's target for net zero greenhouse gas emissions. Involving stakeholders in the process and getting their design right is crucial - to help ensure all parts of the economy and society play their role in their delivery.
We were joined by the Defra Secretary of State George Eustice, Chief Executive of the Committee on Climate Change Chris Stark, IEMA’s CEO Sarah Mukherjee and other leaders to explore how we can:
• define the environmental outcomes we need to guide a green recovery and green growth
• engage businesses and civil society in setting the targets and delivering the solutions
• translate national targets into positive actions.
