Woodland Domestic Carbon Units Opportunities and Benefits

28th July 2015

This IEMA Webinar will focus on the Woodland Carbon Code, the UK’s only domestic carbon standard. It will explain the product that is on offer and the opportunities and benefits of buying carbon units from a UK-based woodland creation project.

The Woodland Carbon Code, ranked 3rd voluntary carbon standard globally in 2014, is the UK’s only domestic carbon standard. This webinar will explain the standard, the types of woodland creation projects in the scheme, and the many social and environmental benefits they provide. It will present the Woodland Carbon Units on offer from these projects, and clarify how they can be used by companies to compensate their gross GHG emissions, or to help in claims of carbon neutrality. Businesses which have already purchased from such projects, including Waitrose, BWOC and the Green Investment Bank, will be showcased and the benefits these companies see of investing in UK woodland carbon projects will be explored. For those with an EIA or planning role, we will explain the carbon sequestration tools available online and consider how they might be applicable to this kind of work.
