Circular Economy in Practice: Circular Public Procurement – case study focus on Sweden

20th April 2020

This webinar session provides scientifically grounded insights from the public and the private sector on circular public procurement (CPP) as a key enabler for a transition to a circular economy. The Swedish case study focus highlights the challenges and recommendations encountered by professionals looking to adopt circular public procurement practices within their organisations.

In Beyond the Perfect Storm, IEMA’s business briefing on the Corporate Sustainability Challenge, we highlighted that the circular economy represents a net material cost saving opportunity of between $340bn and $380bn a year to the EU. With procurement featuring among IEMA’s list of core ingredients in the transformation to sustainability, there is a strong case for exploring how a circular approach to public procurement can be a potential key driver for a transition to a circular economy.

This edition of the Circular Economy in Practice webinar series looked at the insights from a Swedish multi-stakeholder project considering the implementation of circular public procurement.

During this session you will obtain:

- An overview of the project findings and the managerial toolbox developed during a Swedish research study entitled PROCEED (=Public PROcurement with a Circular Economy EDge);

- Insights and recommendations from the research, private and public sector organisations that participated in the project;

- opportunity to connect with experts at the forefront of circular public procurement innovation.

Speakers included:

- Emanuela, Vanacore, Circular Economy MBA, Researcher, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden;

- Mats Williander, Senior Researcher, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden;

- Elina Persson, Sustainability Strategist, Helsingborg municipality;

- Sebastian Rudenstam, Co-Founder & Chief Business Development Officer, Beleco.

The webinar is suitable for anyone working in procurement and sustainability.
