The Energy Efficiency Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 implement five articles and three annexes of the Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU). Electricity and gas suppliers are required to provide access to bills and billing information free of charge and this must be easily understandable. Electricity transmission and distribution system operators will be required to give priority to renewable energy sources when dispatching electricity generation. The regulations also impose minimum requirements on smart meters, should these be rolled out in the future.
