The low-carbon economy in the UK is worth around £122 billion and has been growing on average by more than 7% a year since 2010, according to a report from Decc.
The energy and climate change department said the sector supported more than 460,000 jobs, equivalent to 1.5% of all UK jobs, and that the number had been increasing at 3.8% a year on average. The sector is spread across the country, with nearly £2.7 billion invested in renewable electricity in north east England and £6 billion in Scotland, Decc estimates.
The Green Investment Bank has backed more than 40 green infrastructure projects and committed some £2 billion to the UK’s low-carbon economy since its launch in 2012.
