Adrian was recently appointed as the new Chief Executive for the Central Science Laboratory (CSL). In this role, Adrian also becomes the Chief Executive of the Regulatory Science Agency (RSA). Prior to this, Adrian was a member of the Executive Board of Natural England, having led the project to establish the new NDPB including its Board and governance, in 2006. Adrian was also a Corporate Director of Nottingham City Council, with responsibility for Corporate Services. He has held senior executive roles in Risk and Governance with Barclays and Bradford & Bingley PLC, working with the Boards of both. Adrian has also completed a number of consulting assignments, including for the Department of Work and Pensions, the Department for Transport, and Sheffield and Durham Cathedrals.
Barrie studied languages and history at university. Teaching English in comprehensive schools for four years led to a career in marketing communications and public affairs in food and drink, property and the environment. He worked in brand management and consumer affairs for Whitbread, Imperial Foods and IGD, the food industry research group. At the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Barrie managed teams responsible for research, marketing and government and member relations. Barrie is now Director of Communication at Water UK, the association that represents the water industry at national and European level. His interests are bird watching, walking, sport, music, contemporary fiction and theatre.
Jiggy Lloyd is an independent consultant in public policy, corporate strategy and sustainable development. She is an Associate of Green Alliance, the environmental policy think-tank, member of Friends Provident’s Committee of Reference and former member of the Government’s Sustainable Procurement Taskforce.
From 2003 to 2005 she was Group Director of Corporate Responsibility at AWG Plc; prior to this she held senior environment and government affairs posts in Severn Trent Plc and the Vivendi (now Veolia) businesses in the UK. This followed posts in government, consultancy (now ERM) and policy advice. Jiggy Lloyd has degrees in ecology and forestry. She is a Nuffield Scholar, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Vice-President of the Town and Country Planning Association and a Trustee of Transport 2000 Trust.
Jonathan is currently Health, Safety and Environment Director at Premier Foods plc, the UK’s largest food producer, employing over 20,000 people across 60 major sites. Prior to this, he led a major restructuring of the central HS&E function at RHM plc, before its merger with Premier Foods in early 2007. Before entering the food industry, Jonathan spent 7 years as Environment, Health and Safety Director at Smiths Group plc, the global engineering and technology company. He began his career with 10 years as an environmental consultant. Jonathan has been a Full Member Assessor since 1998 and is also a Principal Environmental Auditor assessor.
Ian is the current Chairman of IEMA and has served as a Non-Executive Director of IEMA and the former IEM since 1994. He is currently the Business Assurance, Training and Development Manager for Clancy Docwra Ltd following a 7 year period as an independent consultant. Prior to working as a consultant he spent over 20 years in the Power Industry, latterly as Environmental Systems Co-ordinator for National Power.
Paul is Corporate Responsibility Manager at Royal and SunAlliance with responsibility for environmental strategy in the UK. He has held a number of positions at R&SA over the last ten years in the Risk, Commercial Insurance and Strategy functions. While he has focused on environmental issues other areas of work have included operational risk and capital modelling.
Prior to this he worked in environmental consultancy for nearly ten years including three as Technical Director at Ashdown Environmental. He is a Chartered Chemist and has had a long involvement with IEMA as a Principal Environmental Auditor ( latterly as an examiner) dating back to EARA days. Current interests include the quantification of environmental risks and the embedding of green issues within corporate operational frameworks.
Ian Michael Russon worked within the Iron and Steel industry for 16 years. Graduated from Newcastle University with a (Hons) degree in chemistry and holds a Masters degree in environmental management from UMIST. Fellow of the IEMA and a Chartered Environmentalist. Chairs the European Coil Coaters Associations, Environment and Sustainability Committee. Current role is Manager of Systems and Resources at Corus Color responsible for Environment, Health and Safety, Business Management Systems and Human Resources for the Colorcoat Construction business of Corus Colors and a member of the business management team.
After almost 25 years in the Chemical Industry, the latter part of which was spent in Environmental Management roles, Russell came down to Lincoln from native Northumberland in July 2000 to take over the role of Chief Executive of the Institute. He became a member of Institute of Environment Management (IEM) in 1992, becoming their first North East Regional Chair and was elected to the Board as a Non-Executive Director in 1995. The IEM being one of the founding Institutes when the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) was formed in September 1999, where he sat on the Interim Council.
Russell is also a Director of the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) formed in 2003, receiving the Royal Charter in 2004 allowing Constituent Bodies to bestow the award of Chartered Environmentalist. He is a founding Director of Action Sustainability, set up in June 2006 with the aid of DEFRA BREW funding to be a leading ‘not-for-profit’ organisation in the field of Sustainable Procurement. He is also a Fellow of The Royal Society for the Arts – FRSA.
Martin is the IEMA’s Deputy Chief Executive. Martin is the UK’s Expert, appointed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to the European Commission’s EMAS Regulatory Committee; a member of the British Standards Institution (BSI) committee responsible for environmental management standards; chair of the BSI Panel on Environmental Communication and a member of the UK environmental management delegation to the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
Martin is Chair of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service’s Environmental Management Stakeholder Advisory Committee and is a member of the Society for the Environment Registration Authority. Martin also Chaired DEFRA’s Advanced Waste Management Technologies Education and Training Strategy Committee.
