The Government intends the Paper to lead to ‘a better, quicker system to decide major infrastructure projects with enhanced community engagement and an improved level of expertise; a simplified local planning system for householders; a greater role for planning in tackling climate change and a planning system that supports vibrant town centres.
A coalition of NGOs, including Friends of the Earth, CPRE and the new economics foundation, are not so sure. See http://www.planningdisaster.co.uk for their response.
