A new department dedicated to combating global warming has been launched by the Government. The Office of Climate Change (OCC) will provide a shared resource for the development of policy and strategy on the issue, on both domestic and international fronts.

The OCC will work on the management and reporting of existing climate change commitments, while identifying short and medium goals for different sectors and working to develop priority actions.

"The Office of Climate Change will be a key resource to help us achieve the challenging targets we have set to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2050," explained Environment Secretary David Miliband.

"The Office will co-ordinate climate change activity across Government based on sound, objective analysis and drive forward progress on climate change policy and strategy."
