The CBI team made it clear that freer and fairer trade could lead to substantial environmental benefits, so long as the necessary sustainable development policies existed. Indeed, multinational companies, particularly UK-based ones, contributed to environmental protection by operating environmental standards that were often above strict legal requirements.
The session also provided the CBI with an opportunity to reinforce its core Doha Development Agenda messages, including the need for an ambitious and balanced outcome this year.
