Tom leads Mott MacDonald’s Social Safeguards team working primarily in the energy infrastructure sector in Europe and Africa. He is also one of the lead specialists in Mott MacDonald’s global Social Practice, working on a range of infrastructure sector projects worldwide. He manages social specialists permanently based in the UK, South Africa and Canada and Colombia providing social impact assessment (SIA), due-diligence and construction monitoring services to developers and lenders respectively. His team works closely with environmental and engineering colleagues to assess, avoid and mitigate risks and adverse social impacts. They specialise in resettlement, stakeholder engagement, labour and human rights, indigenous peoples’ and community development. He has previously been recognised as a social expert by EBRD and is academically published on the topic of SIA.
