Richard leads the University of Manchester’s drive to achieving its target of being zero carbon by 2038 and within its science-based target. Other priorities include enhancing biodiversity on campus, establishing our indirect carbon footprint, improving sustainable travel, reducing waste and numerous other environmental objectives. Prior to joining The University, Richard led on sustainability at the BBC where he created “Albert”, a carbon calculator to measure the impact of TV and film production. The tool is now used by thousands of productions around the world. Richard co-founded the “Albert” partnership with BAFTA, an organisation which is now the world leader in sustainable screen arts. He co-created the first Carbon Literacy course for broadcasting and has taught the course to hundreds of people.
