Dr. Alvarenga is passionate about developing and implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) plans, by designing environmental strategy and setting of long-term carbon, waste and water reduction targets and strategies. With in-depth knowledge of international environmental law, climate change (mitigation and adaptation), economic instruments, stakeholder engagement, she has assisted companies while fostering the state of the environment and people’s livelihoods.

Karen has worked for both private and public sectors, federal and state governments, UN agencies and NGOs, participating of the negotiations of numerous Multilateral Environmental Agreements (including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change, biodiversity, forest, water, waste. and trade of endangered species).

Her projects range from valuating ecosystem services of a small watershed in Brazil to carrying out Environmental Due Diligence for major infrastructure project finance, advising C-level executives and government officials on international best practices on specific environmental issues and green finance.
