Debbie Cousins is an IEMA Fellow and an environmental and social expert with more than 25 years’ experience working on environmental and social aspects assessments and implementation on complex international infrastructure projects.She currently is a Group Head in the Environment and Sustainability Department at the EBRD.

Prior to joining the Bank she was a Project Director in a multi-national environmental and energy consultancy leading on a broad range of E&S assignments.Over her career, Debbie has had the opportunity to work in project development, on construction sites and as Lender Environmental and Social Advisor for a wide range of due diligence assignments across the world.She has also advised on resettlement and social issues in accordance with Lender standards, engaging with a broad range of stakeholders groups. Her public and private sector project experience extends to the oil and gas, transportation, power (including wind and nuclear), natural resources and infrastructure sectors.

Debbie has been previously served as a member on the IEMA Professional Standards Committee and is currently the Chair of IEMA’s Global Environmental and Social Assessment Group. As GESA Chair, she will continue to explore ways of bringing impact practitioners closer together and promote the sharing of best practice. She is also passionate about supporting early career E&S Professionals, which includes mentoring individuals on the GESA Young Professional Working Group.
