The Environment Bill sets a new environmental governance framework as the UK leaves the European Union’s environmental policy and legislative structures. The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) is the new ‘green watchdog’, with a central role to play in providing independent advice, scrutiny and enforcement; and with powers to hold public authorities and government to account for the implementation of environmental law.
In this webinar we heard from leading legal and policy experts:
• Begonia Filgueira FIEMA, Partner at Acuity Law, Director at ERIC and Co-chair UKELA’s Governance and Devolution Group
• Simon Colvin FIEMA, Partner at Weightmans
• Martin Baxter, IEMA Chief Policy Advisor
This session looked at how the OEP might approach its role to improve the implementation of environmental law and contribute to improvements in the natural environment.
This webinar directly supports the “Policy, Regulation and Legislation” competency area of the IEMA Sustainability Skill Map.
