Throughout 2016, CIRIA, CIEEM and IEMA collaborated to produce the UK's first Biodiversity Net Gain Principles for developments. This involved extensive engagement with professionals and consultation with a range of stakeholders.

Following issue of the principles, a guide has been produced aimed at professionals and also the range of organisations that can influence, facilitate and deliver Biodiversity Net Gain.

The work was supported technically and financially by a range of organisations and CIRIA appointed a consortium to undertake the work. Led by Balfour Beatty, the consortium included Footprint Ecology, WSP, Natural England and Forest Trends.
