The Landscape Institute has called for climate change adaptation to be included in national planning policy.

The institute has made 12 recommendations for a mission statement on landscape architecture.

Measures include incorporating objective landscape and urban design criteria into the code for sustainable homes and any future code for sustainable non-domestic buildings.

It also wants minimum regulatory standards for surface water run-off in new residential development and increased consideration of green roofs.
