The Czech Republic lags behind most European Union countries in terms of spending on environment protection, ranking at the end of the list with EUR 23 (CZK 670) per person and a year, the financial server said today with reference to data from the EU statistical office Eurostat. Government expenditures on environment protection in the EU amounted to some EUR 60 billion last year, accounting for about 0.6 percent of the block's gross domestic product, analyst Petr Gola said.
