Friends of the Earth commissioned research last year to examine the effectiveness of UK government policy assessment methods. The report was researched and written by Gordon Walker and Helen Fay of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability Research, Staffordshire University and Gordon Mitchell of the School of Georgraphy, University of Leeds. It investigates the relative usefulness of policy impact assessment tools in helping to determine whether the negative environmental impacts of policies are borne disproportionately by certain sectors of the population.
