Since 2018, Andrew has been leading a rail industry level decarbonisation research programme.

This initially supported the Rail Industry Decarbonisation Taskforce. It has included projects to assess the industry's footprint, consider interim targets and pathways to the industry achieving net zero, looked at how to bring hydrogen and battery trains into service and developed industry-level decarbonisation action plans and supply chain management.
