Using EU waste hierarchy

Defra has published guidance on how to apply the waste heirarchy set out in the EU Waste Framework Directive

Article 4 of the revised EU Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) sets out five steps for dealing with waste. The steps are ranked according to their environmental impact to produce a “waste hierarchy”.

Defra has now published guidance on applying the hierarchy for businesses or public bodies that generate, handle or treat waste.
