Unsustainable firms risk being left behind

Businesses that do not take a proactive approach to environmental management face the same fate as those that didn't catch onto the digital revolution, warns Simon Waldman, group product director at Love Film.

Speaking at a Green Monday event this week, Waldman likened those organisations failing to get on board with green growth and sustainability to video rental businesses that failed to anticipate online streaming of films.

“Companies should stick to what they do but transform how they do it,” he advised.

Douglas Johnston, director of the event’s sponsor Ernst and Young, says that many of the firm’s clients are already working to incorporate sustainability programmes that transform the whole business.

“We have seen this affecting the core product or service of the organisation and fundamental changes to the way it is provided, manufactured or sold,” he said.

“As a result many leading organisations are either building ambitious plans or are already on the journey of transformational change around the sustainability agenda.”
