The recast Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive (2012/19/EU) replaces the original WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC) and seeks to promote the sustainable production and consumption of electrical and electronic equipment, through national targets for the recovery of WEEE.

The commission aims to encourage the efficient use of resources and the retrieval of valuable secondary raw materials. Directive 2012/19/EU repeals Directive 2002/96/EC from February 2014.
