February 2019 legislation updates for Ireland.

The Radiological Protection Act 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2019 (SI No. 30 of 2019) transpose Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM (the Basic Safety Standards Directive). The purpose of these Regulations is to protect workers and members of the public from the harmful effects of ionising radiation. The new Regulations introduce a number of important changes to the way in which we regulate the use of ionising radiation in Ireland and revoke the Radiological Protection Act 1991 (Ionising Radiation) Order 2000 (SI No.125 of 2000). One key change brought about by the new Regulations relates to the national reference level for radon levels in workplaces, which has decreased from 400 Bq/m3 to 300 Bq/m3.
