IEMA puts forward its position on energy efficiency in new buildings

IEMA submits response to the Future Homes Standard consultation Earlier this year, IEMA submitted its response to the Future Homes Standard consultation. In preparation, IEMA consulted its members and other organisations with interests in seeing a built environment that keeps carbon emissions as low as possible by design. Disappointingly, government only consulted on the two least ambitious specifications: Option 1, which involves installing heat pumps instead of gas boilers and improving on building fabric for insulation; and Option 2, which involves switching gas boilers to heat pumps but is regressive on building fabric standards. The outcomes of the two options would be starkly different. Read the full IEMA response at www.bit.ly/Future_Homes_Standard As well as submitting a consultation response, IEMA has co-signed a letter to the secretary of state that tallies with the recommendations that we have made separately. Co-signatories to this include developers, consultants, local authorities, housing associations, non-profits/NGOs, architects and designers, engineering consultants, contractors, building product manufacturers/suppliers, academia and finance.
