IEMA outlines suggestions to strengthen government WEEE reform plans

31/05/2024

Following the launch of a consultation last year, IEMA has identified gaps in the government’s proposed framework to align the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer responsibility system with the polluter pays principle. Recommendations to strengthen the proposals include: adopting the R-Ladder to prioritise product design at the first instance, a standardised approach to sustainable production and consumption, new kerbside collections to mitigate risks such as damage, theft or environmental harm, and improved data collection to gauge the quantity and categories of waste put on the market.
