Climate change damaging global labour markets
Global warming is already having a detrimental impact on worker productivity, labour markets and economic growth, according to a study by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The findings show that working hours and labour capacity have fallen due to a warming climate, particularly in tropical regions, with implications for GDP, health, absenteeism and labour rights.
In contrast, cooler countries are currently experiencing benefits from warming, exacerbating inequalities between the Global North and South, especially for vulnerable groups. The findings suggest that we could see a rise in economic migration due to climate change this year.
