Barbara Young to speak at IEMA Annual Conference

The IEMA are delighted to announce that Baroness Barbara Young, Chief Executive of the Environment Agency, has agreed to be the Keynote Speaker for the IEMA's Second Annual Conference.

Society for the Environment

Ten leading environmental Institutions and Learned Societies have come together to form a new Umbrella Body for environmental affairs. Between them they represent the primary environmental disciplines. The new body is the ‘Society for the Environment’ (SocEnv) – formerly known by the working title of CUBE (Chartered Umbrella Body for the Environment).

Become a Fellow of the Institute

We are delighted to announce that the Fellow level of membership has been approved by the IEMA Council and is now available to Full Members. Fellowship is the highest level of professional recognition offered by the Institute and signifies that the individual has demonstrated substantial achievement in the environmental profession.

The second IEMA annual conference takes place on 3rd and 4th of June at the Botanical Gardens, near Birmingham. REMAS, exploiting the links between EMS and regulation

REMAS is a three-year project designed to examine environmental management systems (EMS's) currently in place in business and industry across EU Member States. REMAS aims to demonstrate that companies and organisations that implement environmental management systems, such as EMAS and ISO 14001, show better environmental performance overall. The IEMA is one of the project partners, along with the Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Irish EPA.

Environmental Policy is published

The IEMA has published its environmental policy as part of a programme to achieve certification to ISO 14001 for the Institute's activities at the Lincoln office. The policy can be found under "read more".

Environmental Purchasing in Practice

The IEMA is delighted to announce the publication of its second journal in the ‘practitioner’ series: ‘Environmental Purchasing in Practice: guidance for organisations’. The journal has been co-produced with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency.

Bell College prize for Student Essay Competition

The winning entry in the Student Essay Competition will receive 800 and a free place on Bell College's 18-day Associate Level Certified Training Course - this includes free accommodation, breakfast and lunch. The winner will also receive a framed certificate. The winning essay will be published in 'the environmentalist' magazine. Free course places would also be available for up to three runners-up. The closing date for entries is 28 February 2003.

Acorns are entrusted to the IEMA

Agreement has been reached with the Acorn Trust for the IEMA to manage the proposed Scheme based on a new British Standard (BS 8555) when the project is completed in March 2003.
