IEMA responds to Government's Waste Prevention Programme

On 11th December the UK Government launched its strategy for reducing and managing waste with the aim of achieving a zero waste economy. Commenting on the launch Martin Baxter Executive Director - Policy at IEMA said today:

We welcome Government's recognition of the benefits of moving to a more resource efficient circular economy. However unlocking the prize of more sustainable growth with lower environmental impacts will require a concerted effort by business to embed resource efficiency and recovery across the whole value chain. Failure to recognise the importance of environment and sustainability skills to enable businesses to deliver this agenda is a missed opportunity.

The Waste Prevention Programme for England aims to improve the environment and protect human health by supporting a resource efficient economy reducing the quantity and impact of waste produced whilst promoting sustainable economic growth.

The plan is available from the gov.uk website here.
