IEMA's Response To The DEFRA and DECC Consultation On Draft Guidance On How To Measure and Report Your Greenhouse Gas Emissions

This news article details the approach that IEMA took working with DEFRA and DECC providing a response to this consultation. DEFRA and DECC held a joint public consultation on draft guidance for how UK organisations should measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions. As required by the Climate Change Act the final guidance will be published by 1 October 2009 following consultation.

As part of a public consultation on Government's Draft Guidance for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Measurement & Reporting IEMA in partnership with the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) held a series of workshop events for business and industry members of IEMA across the UK.

The aim of the workshops was to gather feedback on the draft guidance from those organisations likely to be affected by the new legislation.

Workshops were held in:

  • London
  • Belfast
  • Derby
  • Manchester
  • Exeter
  • Cardiff
  • Cambridge
  • Edinburgh
  • Leeds

Approximately 150 individuals attended the workshops and their opinions have been used to help formulate our response. IEMA's response recognises that the guidance will make a valuable contribution helping organisations to measure estimate and reduce their greenhouse gas footprint. It considers a range of specific issues from guidance for SMEs through to the need for a reduction hierarchy that focuses on emissions reduction at source.
