Micro–Wind assessment from BRE

The Building Research Establishment in 'Micro-wind turbines in urban environments: an assessment' published on 30 November:

compares the likely performance of three wind turbines in different UK locations concluding that the potential output of a turbine on a pitched roof in Manchester would be 150kWh a year compared to around 3000kWh from a similar turbine set-up in Wick.

The report suggests that turbines would add to the carbon footprint of Manchester and Portsmouth given their low contribution to electricity generation in comparison to the energy required to manufacture deliver install and maintain them.
