CBI Promotes Environmental Benefits of Trade to Commons Inquiry

25/07/2006

A CBI team headed by CBI Head of International Group Gary Campkin gave oral evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee's Inquiry on International Trade Development and the Environment this week.

The CBI team made it clear that freer and fairer trade could lead to substantial environmental benefits so long as the necessary sustainable development policies existed. Indeed multinational companies particularly UK-based ones contributed to environmental protection by operating environmental standards that were often above strict legal requirements.

The session also provided the CBI with an opportunity to reinforce its core Doha Development Agenda messages including the need for an ambitious and balanced outcome this year.
