News of an expected increase in prices by British Gas of up to 25% has today been condemned as outrageous by the Green Party. Keith Taylor, Green Party Principal Speaker, commented: "This will be the largest price rise to be forced through by an energy supplier since the market was deregulated at the end of the 1990s, and will be the fourth announced by British Gas in three years. "This will inevitably consign millions more to fuel poverty - latest estimates suggest there are 2m pensioner homes without insulation, while Help the Aged estimates that last winter, 28,700 older people in England and Wales died of preventable, cold-related illnesses. How will the most vulnerable to colder weather be able to cope with these new hikes?
