The Society for the Environment was launched in October 2002 the IEMA is one of the ten founding bodies. The Society's next major milestone is the submission of a petition to the Privy Council for incorporation by Royal Charter and a new qualification Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).Preliminary discussions have already taken place with the Privy Council and the Society is aiming to complete the application process by the end of 2003.
