Carbon Offsetting - Net-Zero developments and the Oxford Principles

In this webinar, Thomas Hale from University of Oxford outlined the Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting.

Carbon offsetting is an important tool in efforts to achieve net zero emissions. However, their use can be contentious and in some situations is argued to delay transitions. So, what types of offsets are now seen as acceptable and under what conditions should they be used?

Published in 2020, the principles are increasingly referenced in net-zero transitions. They provide guidelines to help ensure offsetting actually helps to achieve a net zero society.

Additional presentations were also provided by Miguel Naranjo, Programme Officer with the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (Bonn, Germany) and by Nick Blyth on IEMA’s Pathways to Net-Zero. We were also be joined by members of IEMA’s Climate Change and Energy Network for a practice focused panel discussion.
