World Environment Day 2020 has selected the theme of Biodiversity. This year has demonstrated how strongly our society is interconnected with the natural world that we live in and that protecting biodiversity should be a priority at the forefront of our policy and development industries. Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach to embed and demonstrate the value of biodiversity within sustainable development and is one of the most revolutionary pieces of policy to be introduced in recent years.
This webinar provided an introduction to World Environment Day, leading into an overview from Spencer Clubb (IEMA) on the BNG policy outlined in the Environment Bill and what it means for the planning process. We were then guided through case study examples by Zoe Webb (Arup) that demonstrated the potential and challenges that BNG can bring when working with clients on the ground to deliver projects. There was also an opportunity for a question and answer session to conclude the webinar.
