IEMA CEO, Sarah Mukherjee MBE, comments on IPCC's latest report

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the final part of its sixth assessment report today which states that we still have an opportunity to limit the worst impacts of global warming.

The report highlights a continued increase in greenhouse gas emissions but also states that there are multiple feasible and effective options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions available now and that there is sufficient global capital to rapidly reduce emissions if existing barriers are reduced.

IEMA CEO Sarah Mukherjee MBE commented: Today's report from the IPCC is yet another reminder of the unprecedented challenge we face in limiting global warming to 1.5°C with greenhouse gas emissions continuing to rise.

However there is still a window of opportunity to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and the report makes clear that we do have the tools needed to rapidly cut emissions at the scale required.

We must take advantage of the time we still have left because soon the damage will be irreversible.
