IEMA reacts to Defra long-term targets

‘We welcome today’s publication of the long-term legally binding environmental targets for England and note the increased ambition in certain areas e.g. species abundance on land.

IEMA recommended in its response to the government’s consultation for the alignment of target end dates to decadal intervals and for the inclusion of a target for the status of protected sites. Unfortunately neither of these recommendations has been followed through on.

Regardless we are committed to continuing to work with government on the strengthening and successful implementation of the targets framework and look forward to the publication of the EIP in the New year.’
