IEMA reacts to ongoing drought

Reacting to the news that the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs' National Drought Group has met and confirmed that much of England is still in drought IEMA's deputy CEO Martin Baxter said:

“The ongoing drought is a reminder of the effects of climate change. It is crucial that we take action to enhance our resilience to extreme weather events – including floods droughts and record high temperatures – as the these are set to intensify and become more frequent over time.

This summer has highlighted the vulnerability of our water resources; it is vital that we find better natural storage solutions to be prepared for the future.”
