Recent policy and practice activity

It’s been a busy period for the policy and practice team with a range of activities and outputs delivered over the last few months.

This has included submissions to the government’s long-term environmental targets framework consultation and to the Public Bill Committee on the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill. We also held a roundtable discussion with IEMA members and the Shadow Minster for Energy, Dr Alan Whitehead MP, on the subject of green skills.

The roundtable was the first in a series of such events that IEMA’s policy team is pulling together in the second half of 2022. Future sessions will explore themes including the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, the ongoing implementation of the Environment Act, the UK’s 2050 net zero emissions target and the biodiversity and climate COP negotiations.

Finally our latest Outlook Journal focused on international ESG has been published.

Upcoming policy and practice activity

Forthcoming policy projects include briefing documents for both the COP15 (biodiversity) and COP27 (climate change) negotiations taking place later in the year, alongside an update to IEMA’s high-level environmental principles policy document.

On the practice side we are developing climate change adaptation guidance, a biodiversity and natural capital glossary of key concepts, plus further guidance documents from our impact assessment member group in the areas of health and transport.

Webinar programme

Our webinar programme remains popular with sessions focused on green skills, biodiversity net gain, GHG in impact assessment, the Environment Act, Pledge to Net Zero, climate change adaptation amongst many others having so far been in held during 2022.
