IEMA reacts to Government's response to EAC Green Jobs report

The Government has responded to the Environmental Audit Committee’s report on Green Jobs indicating that key government departments are not currently represented in its Green Jobs Delivery Group and that no changes will be made to the national curriculum to embed environmental sustainability in education.

IEMA's Director of Policy and External Affairs Martin Baxter comments:

Although we welcome the Government's commitment to help people into green jobs and embedding them across government schemes it is disappointing that in its response to the Committee’s findings there is little recognition of the need for all jobs in the future to be a little bit greener.

If we are to achieve a sustainable future we need to make sure that sustainability and environmental considerations regardless of occupational relevance are embedded into skills development at all levels across the UK’s jobs market. Only this approach will be enough to deliver the green economy of the future and the Government should move to deliver this via a dedicated National Green Jobs and Skills Strategy.”
