Find out here what to expect from the application process, how long it should take and exactly what you will be required to do.

1 - An assessment overview

  • To register your application, complete the online application and pay the application fee.
  • Submit your supporting documents (written submission, CV, verification form, and photographic identification) within four weeks
  • The Membership Team will send your documents to one of our Full Member Assessors for an initial review and will then arrange your interview.
  • Your interview will take place at a time which suits both yourself and your Assessors. The interview itself will last no longer than 90 minutes.
  • Finally, your overall result will be sent to you within six weeks of your interview.

2 - Written Submission

Once you have applied online, you’ll need to start working on the written submission part of your assessment. This is due four weeks from the day of your online application submission, so don’t delay.

These templates and guidance documents will help you complete your assessment;

  • Application Guidance: Need some in-depth detail about Full membership, your application and how to get it right? Download the Application Guidance pack to find out all you need to know.
  • Written Submission Template: It can be hard to know where to begin when you need to craft your written submission, so we’ve created a template to help you structure it. Download it here.
  • Application Verification form: Finally, you’ll need two colleagues or peers to verify your application. Download it here.

Don’t forget, you should refer to each of the competencies of the Full Member Standard as you write your written submission to ensure you’re on the right track.

3 - Your Interview

The interview is a peer-to-peer discussion with two of IEMA's Full Member Assessors. You'll discuss your knowledge and experience as they relate to the 13 competencies of the Full Membership Standard, the Code of Professional Conduct and your Continued Professional Development (CPD) goals. Your interview will take place online via Microsoft Teams so you don't need to make any costly or inconvenient travel arrangements.

If your Assessors are satisfied that you meet all of the competencies outlined in the Full Membership Standard, you will achieve MIEMA (and CEnv if applicable) status.
