Wanderlands provide environmental and sustainability consultancy services including carbon management and natural capital project solutions to a range of corporate and commercial clients, developers and landowners operating across a range of industry sectors.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Ecology Consultant to join our ambitious and growing Land Management Team.

Externally, you will play a client facing role and will be experienced in the technical delivery of consultancy led projects for clients relating to land management and diversification, biodiversity strategy, and habitat creation and restoration.

Internally, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of projects including technical report production, and evaluating and reporting progress against client programmes and contracts.

You will demonstrate a willingness to adapt and develop this role working with the Land Management team, and contributing to Research & Development and Innovation Projects to build our brand and service offering aligned to our client sector markets.

You will work closely with our business leads and affiliate partners to support the successful delivery of our business plan goals and objectives for our Land Management team.

About You

You hold a relevant environmental degree level qualification and are a Chartered member / working towards chartership with an industry recognised professional institution.

You have a minimum of 5 years practical and relevant consultancy experience working within a strong team dynamic.

You have proven ability in a client facing environment, are able to communicate and understand client drivers and objectives, and think strategically and creatively whilst providing tailored advice to meet the delivery requirements of clients for land management, and biodiversity and habitat creation and restoration projects.

You have proven ability to develop working relationships with clients, collaborative partners and external stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project delivery of small-medium sized projects.
  • Leading complex habitat and species surveys including supervision of internal and external resources.
  • Technical Report Writing including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and Habitat Management & Monitoring Plans.
  • Plan, design and implement practical, innovative and deliverable habitat creation and enhancement projects that support nature restoration.   

Core Requirements

  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK planning, environmental legislation and policy frameworks relating to ecology and nature conservation.
  • Experience in leading and managing UK habitat and species surveys and monitoring practices.
  • Experienced with UK habitat condition assessments and classification assessments.
  • Experience in developing biodiversity strategies and net gain assessments including proficiency with the Defra statutory metric calculator.
  • Commercial awareness and experience of managing client project contracts and consultancy commissions.
  • Excellent team-working, and ability to contribute towards a positive team dynamic.   

Additional Beneficial Experience

  • Hold one or more survey and development licences.
  • Experience with QGiS modelling software.
