Location
In 2020, Unilever announced the intention to build a new sustainable campus site in Kingston, London to house the employees who currently work in 100 Victoria Embankment in Blackfriars ("100VE"), Lever House in Kingston and Graze in Richmond, the build is due to be complete in early 2025. Most recently, in August 2024, we announced our intention to retain our premises in 100VE until our lease expires in 2027.
We are due to consult with our existing workforce on the new proposal to retain 100VE for the duration of our lease. Therefore, until such a time consultation has concluded as to the retention of our 100VE office, this role will be based in 100 Victoria Embankment until early 2025 and then will move to the Kingston Campus.
Relocation to the UK

JOB PURPOSE
- Drive sustainability communications, reporting and insights with a strong focus on Unilever's overall sustainability narrative and the Plastics pillar.
- Bring to life Unilever's more focused, urgent and systemic sustainability approach through communications and reporting.
- Leverage 'always on' insights to drive recall among key audiences.
- Reporting to: Head of Sustainability Communications, Reporting & Insights.
- Line management: 1 direct report (WL1C: Sustainability Communications, Reporting & Insights Assistant Manager).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Sustainability Communications
- Act as single point of contact for all external owned channel communications on Unilever's overall sustainability narrative and the Plastics pillar. Support on communication of other sustainability priorities may be required from time to time, especially on those that intersect with Plastic.
- Lead development of the communication strategy and plan for Unilever's overall sustainability agenda including Plastics, built around a compelling narrative and key messages.
- Work with relevant teams to ensure Unilever's strategic and advocacy agenda provides a platform for proactive communication.
- Collaborate with sustainability experts across the business to source and create content in support of the communication strategy and plan.
- Work in sync with Global Content & Owned Channels team to manage content pipeline up to stakeholder sign off on core content.
- Support Global Content & Owned Channels team as required to deliver impactful communications across a range of formats, amplifying with paid media and sweating assets to their full potential. Content formats could include:
- long form e.g. thought leadership, expert OpEds, news articles, documentary style video content.
- short form e.g. social media posts (Unilever and senior leaders), leader/expert soundbite videos, infographics and animations focused on action, impact and performance.
- strategic narrative e.g. periodic updates to u.com pages and content for Unilever-convened stakeholder events/roundtables.
- Capitalise on communications opportunities with key sustainability influencers to amplify narrative and key messages e.g. through 'on the ground' content.
- Pitch story leads to the Global Media Relations team to amplify narrative across key Tier 1 and Trade Media outlets. Lead response to low-risk media enquiries relating to Plastics and cross cutting sustainability issues (i.e. issue agnostic).
Reputation Insights
- Lead delivery of reputation measurement to support C&CA strategy. Provide actionable insights and tailored briefings to relevant stakeholders.
- Utilise insights on reputation, content, channels and key competitors to inform proactive communications strategy and tactical execution.
- Leverage external network to bring outside in perspective to communication strategy and plan.
Corporate Reporting
- Lead on sustainability narrative in the Strategic Report (part of the Annual Report & Accounts), including Plastics content. Ensure it is a fair, balanced and understandable reflection of the Unilever narrative and key messages.
- Work with sustainability team to proactively manage reputation issues arising from ESRS plastic and packaging-related disclosures e.g. due to restatements or performance and disclosure gaps.

Expertise
- Subject matter expertise in Big 4 priorities: deep knowledge of Plastics agenda and intersection with other sustainability topics e.g. Livelihoods and Climate.
- Sustainability comms experience: track record of producing high-quality written and audio-visual content with measurable and demonstrable impact.
- Stakeholder management: proven ability to build and maintain internal stakeholder networks as well as leveraging external network.
