Job Description

Reports to: Head of HSEQ UK

Location: Birmingham

Introduction to role

Vanderlande is the global market leader in baggage handling systems for airports, and sorting systems for parcel and postal services. The HSEQ Manager will be responsible for supporting teams in delivering high HSEQ standards through proactive behaviours, engagement, policy deployment and the plan, do, check, act cycle for our strategic partner (Heathrow Airport) and other relevant warehouse projects. You will have direct contact with the Vanderlande Management Team / Client H&S and Engineering managers / Subcontractors / All Vanderlande departments / Corporate HSEQ Functions.

Role Responsibilities

The key elements of this role involve, creating effective and good working relationships within the Life Cycle Services and to ensure that customer expectations are exceeded. Managing the delivery of HSEQ contractual obligations and other Vanderlande activities with the aim of minimising HSEQ risks. Also being responsible for the continuous improvement of policies and procedures, supporting all maintenance activities, as well as learning continuously and developing professional potential and ability.

Your responsibilities and activities will include:

  • To support Life Cycle Services Portfolio across multiple locations for site based service teams in a HSE capacity

  • Line Manager responsibilities for HSEQ -ensuring continuous development of all team members.

  • Implementation of HSEQ Management System in new facilities within Life Cycle Services

  • To demonstrate Vanderlande's HSEQ credentials to its stakeholders through the appropriate management of risk and promotion of a partnership approach.

  • To demonstrate compliance with HSEQ legislation, company processes, standards & other requirements to which the company subscribes (eg ISO 45001)

  • Awareness of HSEQ Budget to deliver objectives and provide good value.

  • Engagement with the company's safety representatives.

  • Raising the profile of HSEQ through 'boots on the ground' engagement

  • Central point of contact for Site Based Service teams on HSE matters.

  • Co-ordinating local Safety Meetings and management reviews, agreeing / facilitating delivery of local HSEQ objectives & targets in conjunction with management teams.

  • Supporting proactive approach to driving continuous improvement and behaviours in conjunction with Site Base Service teams to maintain alignment of UK and global one way of working.

  • Delivering HSEQ dashboard information in line with monitoring and measurement process and global requirements.

  • Monthly / annual HSEQ reports / KPIs / Dashboard, including contribution to Global Reports.

  • Conduct HSEQ Incident Investigations

Role Qualification and Skills

  • Previous management experience desirable and management of a team of HSE professionals.

  • Understanding of safety legislation / Level 6 NEBOSH or equivalent qualification

  • Communication skills at all levels within the business and client engagement

  • Strong understanding of Machine Safety and its application to support teams in achieving high standards

  • Practical HSE experience in either a Maintenance, Construction or Engineering industries.

  • Experience in development & delivery of HSEQ training packages such as Behavioral Safety, Inductions, Tool Box Talks, Safety Alerts, Incident Investigation & Risk Assessment (Instruction/teaching qualification associated to H&S desirable).

  • Experience with 1SO 45001 / Internal Auditing qualification (Lead Auditor qualification - desired)

  • ISO 14001 Environmental Qualification - desired

  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Qualification - desired
