IEMA - Carbon Offsetting and Net-Zero transition – An evidence review and Environment Agency strategic approach

In this webinar, we learned about the outcomes of this review, considerations identified across carbon offset and ‘compensation’ solutions, and implications of the findings for those developing their carbon offsetting programmes. The webinar focused on the context of the Environment Agency. Achieving direct emission reductions is the primary concern of the Environment Agency. However, it is recognised that carbon compensation (through offsetting) will be required to help achieve Net Zero by 2030. To support development of the Environment Agency’s carbon offsetting strategy, the organisation has opted to take a rigorous approach to exploring the options available for its carbon offsetting strategy. Working with a team of independent environment experts, led by Eunomia Research and Consulting, the Environment Agency has delivered a review of 17 potential approaches to carbon offsetting in the UK. The project team reviewed the existing offsetting market, hosted workshops with landowners and public sector stakeholders, and modelled potential carbon offsetting strategies for the Environment Agency. The objective is to support a viable and robust approach to reaching net zero in 2030. This webinar will be valuable for delegates considering the role of carbon offsetting as a contribution towards net-zero transitions. Speakers included: Nick Blyth, IEMA Lydia Burgess-Gamble, Environment Agency George Beechener, Environment Agency Presentations Offsetting our residual CO2 emission – a review of carbon reduction approaches to achieve Net Zero by 2030: L, Burgess-Gamble & G, Beechener, Environment Agency
