Planning - EU

The European Commission has published a new Directive (2011/92/EU) consolidating and replacing the original Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive (85/337/EEC) and its three amendments (97/11/EC, 2003/35/EC and 2009/31/EC) into a single document.

This action has been taken as part of a wider review of the EIA Directive that should see a new and updated EIA Directive adopted in 2014. IEMA understands the EC plans to launch its proposed text for the new (2014) version of the EIA Directive as a draft this summer. After which it will be down to the Commission, European Parliament and Member States to negotiate the final text.
