MEMBERS' SURVEY

IEMA asks its members for their opinions of 'the environmentalist'

In an opinion survey carried out towards the end of 2002, the Institute's members were asked a number of questions relating to 'the environmentalist' magazine. Over 85% of the respondents thought the content and design of the magazine was either good or very good.

A selection of the positive comments are listed below:

* "A great improvement on past versions, a useful publication."
* "I like it."
* "Professional journal - well executed."
* "It's the best environmental magazine I have read."
* "It is consistently very good."
* "The magazine is very much improved and a pleasure to read."
* "The current publication marks significant progress in communications from the IEMA."
* "Better all the time."
* "It was the environmentalist that persuaded me to join, to pursue EIA in the long term."
* "This publication keeps me up to date with EU issues, very professional publication."

But we're not resting on our laurels, the following is a list of suggestions for improvement and critical comments, we are working to improve the publication in many of these respects.

* "There should be more career news and adverts."
* "I would encourage an increase in the recruitment section. It is interesting not just from a career perspective but also from seeing what is happening in industry."
* "Sometimes articles written by individuals representing particular companies can be quite one sided. Of course we must expect this to a point - sometimes it's a little too much."
* "There should be more case studies from industry on best practice and novel approaches."
* "The publication should be bigger, i.e. more pages."
* "The magazine could cover more natural environment and biodiversity issues."
* "I would prefer shorter summary information with more detail to follow if I was interested."
* "There should be more case studies, experiences etc."
* "I would like to see more content on best practice and profiles of companies with good environmental ethics."
* "I'd like more information on environmental publications available concerning legislation, best practice, EIA, Auditing etc."
