Press Release
Managing Climate Change Emissions and the Emissions Calculator
The IEMA’s Climate Change Emissions Calculator has been updated to incorporate the new DEFRA guidelines published in Summer 2001. The Emissions Calculator can be downloaded from the IEMA’s website, www.iema.net/climate.htm.
The website also includes an algorithm for calculating the net unit costs of climate change investments and a risk assessment tool for exploring the threats and opportunities of climate change policies in the round.
These tools are explained in the Institute’s practitioner journal: ‘Managing Climate Change Emissions: a business guide’. The guide gives a comprehensive account of the key features of the UK government’s climate change programme and associated national and international initiatives. It also offers a thorough introduction to the thinking that businesses should adopt on climate change agreements and emissions trading. A comprehensive list of references is provided.
The practitioner guide is a useful tool for a wide range of people. The first section is aimed at those wishing to understand the financial implications of the climate change policies. Subsequent sections explain the policies in detail as well as providing advice and tools for reducing emissions and costs.
The guide has already received very positive feedback from members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and has been welcomed by the Chairman of the Carbon Trust.
Copies of the Practitioner can be obtained from The Publications Shop on www.iema.net, and from the Institute by calling Dawn Dolby on tel: 01522 540 069 or email d.dolby@iema.net. Price £10

Notes
‘Managing Climate Change Emissions: a business guide’ is the first of the ‘practitioner’ series to be published by the IEMA. Each journal plans to cover a particular salient environmental issue.
