New multi-media tool gets to the heart of green matters
The latest in environmental training has been launched by the Environment Agency and Eco Training Limited. The GreenMatters CD-rom is targeted primarily for use by businesses and has been designed to educate and increase awareness of the financial and public relations benefits of environmental ‘best practice’. Furthermore, it gives credits for those working towards the NCFE vocational qualification 'Advanced Certificate for the Environmental Practitioner'.
NCFE’s head of qualifications, Paul Shipley, said: “This CD-rom is an excellent support tool for individuals and organisations who are working to achieve NCFE’s Advanced Certificate … . Interesting, well designed learning materials have a significant positive impact on students’ studies, and this unique and informative CD is sure to prove helpful.”
GreenMatters heralds a significant step forward in environmental training, creating an impressive multi-media environment to engage, educate and influence users on the impact of environmental issues in business. It uses contempory technology to offer a fresh approach to learning, which can be easily worked around other commitments.
The product is relevant to anyone with a role in companies’ environmental issues taking the user through finance, marketing, legal and procurement departments and identifying what actions can be taken in each. Users plays a learning game across a virtual company’s key departments. They are given the part of a newly appointed managing director of DnB (a virtual manufacturing company with retail outlets) earning green points as they investigate and assess how the strategic environmental agenda is best addressed. By the end of the training the user has built a business case for environmental management and is able to access suggested action cards relevant to their own organisation.
Roger Cowdrey, chief executive of Thames Business Advice Centre, said: “GreenMatters is a cost effective means of educating a newcomer to the corporate environmental agenda to an excellent level, within two or three hours.”
Chris Browne, Environment Agency Procurement Strategy Manager, said: “We have supported the development of this product with our expertise, confident that it will convince companies of the real benefits of environmental best practice. It also contributes an innovative and engaging tool to the environmental training and education sector.”
